Hashtag Aesthetic is an homage to the visual canon of the Internet and a site-specific imposter, referencing and subverting the current tropes and conventions of #aesthetic content. Created as an act of resistance against the expectations of the heteronormative male gaze, this work was created with the aim of infiltrating the prevailing aesthetic of the Internet. By appropriating the principles of hashtags, search engine optimization, and Internet manipulation, Hashtag Aesthetic programs a queer feminist perspective into future net aesthetics and search engine results.
